Kolomela and Beeshoek mines’ investment in the Postmasburg Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) has not only won the confidence of the town’s population, but also had an impact on public health and environmental protection. In 2010 the plant was at standstill due to lack of maintenance. This resulted in danger of contamination of boreholes used for drinking water. BVi was approached to rectify the situation. It resulted in the plant being rewarded with a national award for competence in works operation – probably the only municipality in the Northern Cape to boast this achievement.
