Upgrade of the New Pavement Lab Building - University of Stellenbosch

The new pavement lab building was constructed for the University of Stellenbosch. This building consists of 2 floors and a double volume lab area. The total building area is 5000m2. Various mechanical services.
Scope of works involved the design, tender, construction and site monitoring of:
Air conditioning an ventilation systems consisting of various split type systems with energy efficient inverter type compressors. Filtered outside air is supplied to internal spaces and some areas are equipped with an extraction system.
A duct extraction system extract duct from the Compaction, saving and crusher rooms. The duct plant is equipped with bay filters which are cleaned with a reverse pulse function using compressed air.
Two central compressed air systems are installed in the building. The one system is rated for 10 Bar compressed air and the 2nd one for 20 Bar.
The Plumbing and draining system for the building consists of Cobra layer tiling and Gerberit drainage pipes.
A Hydraulic Power Unit was installed to power some of the equipment in the building. The HPU has a 45kw motor and a capacity of a 100l /min
Three Overhead cranes were installed with a capacity of 1500kg each.
A goods hoist with a capacity of 1 ton was installed.
A fume cupboard was installed complete with extraction for water and compressed air supply points.
