Assistant Contract and Pavement Engineer

Summary:

We are seeking experienced and motivated Assistant Contract and Pavement Engineers to join our Cape Town office. The successful candidates will support the delivery of transportation infrastructure projects with a focus on pavement engineering, contract administration, and construction support.

The role requires technically competent professionals with experience in pavement design and infrastructure project delivery, together with an understanding of contract management principles within the South African road engineering environment. Candidates with strong analytical, digital engineering, and programming capabilities will be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

Pavement Engineering

• Assist with pavement investigations, analysis, design, and rehabilitation studies
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation
• Support the development of pavement management and maintenance solutions
• Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and client requirements

Contract Administration & Construction Support

• Assist with contract administration activities on transportation infrastructure projects
• Support construction supervision teams through site inspections, progress monitoring, and quality assurance activities
• Review contractor submissions, method statements, and project documentation
• Assist in resolving technical site queries and construction-related challenges
• Support compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and contractual obligations

Project Coordination

• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders where required
• Assist with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and reporting activities
• Contribute to tender preparation and proposal documentation where applicable

Key Requirements:

• BEng / BSc in Civil Engineering
• MEng / MSc in Pavement Engineering advantageous
• Minimum of 5–10 years’ relevant experience in pavement engineering and infrastructure project delivery
• Experience in pavement analysis, design, and rehabilitation projects
• SANRAL contract management and project experience
• Understanding of construction supervision, contract administration and quality assurance processes
• Knowledge of relevant South African engineering standards and specifications
• Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Good communication and report writing abilities
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
